As part of our weekend of Grand Opening festivities Michael Thompson – City Councillor will be at The Outlet Saturday at Noon.
Michael Thompson is Chair of Toronto’s Economic Development and Culture Committee, Vice-Chair of the Toronto Police Services Board and the City Councillor representing Ward 37, Scarborough Centre.
Now in his third term as City Councillor, Michael Thompson has earned a reputation as one of Toronto’s hardest working political leaders.
Michael’s commitment to economic development is longstanding. In his first term in office, he spearheaded the creation of the Wexford Heights Business Improvement Area and established a Job Fair that annually brings thousands of job seekers together with dozens of employers. He maintains a widespread network of business relationships that has helped to enhance business retention, promote growth and increase private sector employment. His active engagement with business has helped speed the launch of new business ventures, resolved business/residential conflicts and gained business participation in a wide range of community-building initiatives. In 2010, thanks to his persistent salesmanship, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the world’s largest student run professional association, held its annual conference in Toronto, bringing more than 10,000 young engineers (and millions of dollars) to the city.
A believer in the critical value of culture as a builder of strong communities, Michael co-founded the Taste of Lawrence Avenue East Festival, which brings together tens of thousands of people each year to experience local performing arts and cuisine. He also created the “Scarborough Rocks” community image building campaign, which emphasizes Scarborough’s unique cultural blend.
July 5-7 are the days you will want to visit The John Bead Outlet and our neighbors!
In our Outlet we are featuring special Grand Opening Pricing.
We are also participating just up the road in the Taste of Lawrence.
The John Bead Outlet is sponsoring a creative and interactive booth in the children’s area at this year’s Taste of Lawrence weekend where we will be attempting to create Canada’s longest charm bracelet!
We have 100+ meters of chain we need to fill with charms, sequins, beads, buttons, pom poms and other fun embellishments. We’ll be using string, ribbon and jump rings to attach everything to the chain. No skills required! You’ll see how easy it is to make something fun and wearable using some of the craft and jewelry making supplies found in the Outlet.
Hope to see you at one or both events this weekend!
I am sure you are wondering how the move is going. I visited this week and I can tell you the move to the new outlet location (in the same building) is going great!
Shelves are being filled…and there are a lot of new shelves!
This is the aisle I am most excited about.
All the costume making supplies are being organized into one area! This is going to be fantastic!
Management hopes to be open Mid-May. I’ll keep you posted!
The Outlet move is really going well! There are new shelves and an unbelievable grouping of items being stocked.
What will be in the outlet?
It will change all the time! For those of you who may not know, JOHN BEAD is a very large wholesaler of beading, crafting and jewelry making products. They only sell wholesale, so the public normally does not have access to their products. They have a massive catalogue! When items do not sell, or when there are only a few items left from a grouping, they end up in the John Bead Outlet.
That could mean that there is only one truly fabulous strand available like you see in the picture or there might be hundreds of any one product that will be sold. These are items that are no longer in the wholesale catalogue, so they will not be reordered.
So, if you see something you like in the Outlet, you’ll need to buy it. Stock will change all the time and more than likely you won’t find something you like on a second visit. New items are going to be added weekly.
It will be great fun to shop here to see what has arrived and I believe you’ll be thrilled at the pricing and selection.
I can’t wait to see what the company pulls out of storage now that they will have room to show it!
These are some of my picks for the last day of the 50% off sale. These spools of pearls are a bargain!
These rhinestone clasps will probably never be in the Outlet at this price and in a huge sale again!
This metallic cord selection is fantastic for kumihimo braids.
You won’t be disappointed at the bags of beads in this section. They are divided by colour and each bag is better than the next!
If you are coming to enjoy the last day we are open until after the move please stock up.
The store will not be open again until we make an announcement here on the blog and on the Facebook page.
I call this picture “the calm before the storm.” This is the new outlet space when I peaked in the third week of March. It is so big! It is in the same building as the current outlet but there is a new entrance for it we’ll explain to you as we get closer to the opening.
Here are the displays being loaded in!
By yesterday afternoon the walls appeared to be building themselves! I honestly can’t wait to see the next transformation!
If you missed the earlier posts, the current Outlet is only open this week until Thursday. We’ll let you know when the new space is ready for shoppers via this blog, our Facebook page and in an email to members.
